Service!: A New Columbus Non-Profit Works to Eliminate Hunger Among Hospitality Staff and Their Families.

Service! is a non-profit relief effort for hospitality workers being organized by restaurant industry leaders serving Franklin County, Ohio. Its focus is to identify and utilize resources to eliminate hunger among restaurant industry workers and families.

Partnering with the existing non-profit Independents Day, Service! will be looking to include a grocery box program and an emergency food carry out program, along with other potential social service needs that provide opportunities for food security.

Restaurant leaders including Sang Lakhani from The Table, Matt Heaggans and Catie Randazzo from Ambrose and Eve and Preston’s, and Reed Woodgerd and Letha Pugh from Muse Hospitality, are leading the current rapid mobilization. So far, the team has secured commercial kitchen space, two distribution sites, and set up online ordering to be particularly mindful of safe working conditions in the kitchens and distribution sites. An initial round of hiring has begun so Service! can provide some employment relief as well.

Current needs include partnering with a few more distribution sites and to raise as much money as possible. Service! has hopes eventually to scale and provide as many as 2000 meals a week. They aim to hit the ground running late next week (April 8 or 9, 2020) but that depends on a lot: namely funding. Please do your part by donating to this important cause and sharing this link.
